Livingstone Volunteer grants are offered to encourage and support those young people who would otherwise find it difficult to fund a volunteer placement in Southern Africa because of their personal and/or family circumstances.

Applicants must:

  • Be aged between 15 and 19 years old at the time of travel
  • Show evidence of having secured a volunteering opportunity in one of the eligible countries (Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania/Zanzibar and South Africa) with an organisation such as a secondary school, international NGO, faith or youth group.
  • Show how their personal circumstances make it difficult to fund a volunteer placement in Southern Africa

How to Apply

Applications for the 2016 Livingstone Volunteers will open on 26 October 2015 and will close on 18 December 2015.

Applicants can download an application form and either email or post it back to the McConnell International Foundation. Please also take at look at ourĀ guidelines andĀ advice on the application process. It is highly recommended that you read these guidelines, especially the criteria for eligibility, before completing the application form.

The application form includes questions which aim to find out why applicants want to volunteer in the chosen country and what they hope to gain from the experience.

Applicants will be required to provide a reference from the organisation or school group leader with which they are volunteering. Please ensure this reference is sent to the McConnell International Foundation at the same time as the completed application form.

The successful applicants will be contacted in mid-February 2016 and announced at a Livingstone Volunteers event in March 2016.
