Our History

The McConnell International Foundation was established in 2012 by a group of like-minded individuals who, at different times, were involved in the Scottish Government during the early years of Scotland’s new parliament, founded in 1999.  Led by Lord Jack McConnell, we seek to inspire, organise and empower those who aim to make a positive difference in the world.

Lord Jack McConnell was First Minister of Scotland 2001-2007.  A teacher by profession, with a lifelong commitment to global justice and development, he gave priority in office to education, developing young people and tackling discrimination and injustice.  Internationally, under his leadership, the Scottish Government established a unique development partnership with Malawi that continues to thrive today.

At the McConnell International Foundation, we seek to build on these initiatives by leveraging partnerships across generations, communities and organisations to maximise our resources and shared learning experiences in addressing issues of poverty and conflict.
