Susan Dalgety

Susan Dalgety is a writer, communications expert and researcher with a focus on women in politics, sub-Saharan Africa and poverty. She currently works with the Scotsman Conferences and the Active Learning Centre in the University of Glasgow.

International projects include an active democracy project in Malawi – a capacity building programme for elected councillors, supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy.

Her career has spanned community development as editor of Scotland’s foremost community newspaper to international communications, as Head of International Communications for the Scottish Government.

She was the Chief Press Officer for Lord McConnell during much of his period as First Minister of Scotland, and was deputy leader of Edinburgh City Council from 1997 to 1999. She spent seven years as a Labour councillor in Edinburgh from 1992 to 1999, when she left to become the chief writer for the Edinburgh Evening News.
