Support our work to keep girls in school
The foundation’s main programme is Keep Girls in School in Malawi.Since 2021, we have worked with WOLREC – one of Malawi’s leading women’s rights organisations – to support girls in four districts: Balaka, Salima, Ntichisi and Zomba Rural. We started with 100 scholars with support from TUUT. Two years later we doubled the to 200 girls with match funding from Keep a Child Alive.
The funds we raise through grants, match funding and our own efforts go directly to support girls to stay in school for their four full years of secondary education, working with each school’s leadership team to provide a supportive environment for them and to promote their wellbeing though the provision of uniforms, shoes and dignity packs, stationery and books.
We also support extracurricular classes in reproductive health, study techniques and other relevant subjects. We support girls who fail their national exams in Years 2 or 4 to resit them. And we are now developing Next Steps, a post-school package for students when they complete their four years to help them make the transition into adulthood.

Africa is the only region in the world not to have achieved gender parity at any level in the education system. National budgets remain the principal source of education funding, but governments, including Malawi’s, struggle to cover essentials such as teacher training, salaries, development fees, even books.
Our scholarships help the whole school as Patrick Mkwezalamba, headteacher at Namang’azi CDSS explains: “The scholarship income helps the whole school because it gives my team and I some financial security and allow us to plan better”.
A gift of £10 a month -or £120 – will keep a girl in school for a full academic year.
